Disjecta stuff

Disjecta’s Portland 2016 Biennial, which stretched to venues around the state, enters its final week.

Locally, there’ll be Carla Bengtson’s performance workshop “S.C.O.L.D.,” which stands for Species Calling Out Liars and Deniers and plays on crows’ ability to recognize humans and formulate group opinions, 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at C3:Initiative, 7326 N. Chicago Ave. There’ll be the Portland 2016 Biennial closing party, 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Disjecta, 8371 N. Interstate Ave. And there’ll be the “Disjecta Dialogues” with Michele Fielder, Disjecta’s sixth curator-in-residence, and Adriana Lara, a Mexico-based artist, 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18 at the Ace Hotel, 1022 S.W. Stark St.

From Sept. 24-Oct. 30, Fiedler will present an art exhibition, “Structures and Feelings,” at Disjecta.

‘Five Buddhas’

The Portland Art Museum welcomes the exhibition, symposium and repatriation of the Korean Buddhist painting “Five Buddhas: A Korean Icon’s Journey through Time,” which tells the story of the stolen painting and its restoration and return to the Korean people by Oregonian Robert Mattielli.

The painting is on view through Dec. 4, and the symposium will be held Dec. 3.

Wordstock change

Literary Arts was to announce the Wordstock 2016 lineup this week for the all-day event Nov. 5, and it also has announced that the event will feature new partner venues in the blocks surrounding the host Portland Art Museum and First Congregational United Church of Christ: Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, The Old Church, the Oregon Historical Society, the Winningstad Theatre, the Northwest Film Center and the Brunish Theatre.

Pop-up events, writing workshops, Lit Crawl Portland (Nov. 4), food vendors and a robust exhibitor hall will continue to be part of Wordstock.

20th Sturgeon Festival

The Water Resources Education Center in Vancouver, Washington, will put on the 20th annual Sturgeon Festival, which celebrates the Columbia River ecosystems, home to the might sturgeon. It’ll be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Water Center, 4600 S.E. Columbia Way in Vancouver.

Highlights are a “Birds of Prey” show,” a “Creature Feature Live Reptile” show, and Eartha the Ecological Clown, as well as fish science and dissection by Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife biologists.
