Back Fence PDX: Mainstage

The show has been playing to packed audiences since 2008, featuring local and out-of-town storytellers telling true personal tales based on the night’s theme. A new Back Fence PDX radio show will air on www.XRAY.fm starting this year.

The two star comedians are doing two shows in Portland, reuniting on their “We’ve Been Thinking Tour.” They’ll perform individually, and then come together on stage.

‘Riverdance’

The Irish dance phenomenon returns to Portland after a four-year absence on its 20th anniversary world tour. It’s composed by Bill Whelan, produced by Moya Doherty, and directed by John McColgan. The anniversary tour features new costumes, lighting, projections and a new song, “Anna Livia,” which showcases female members of the troupe in an a capella hard-shoe number.

‘Live Wire’

The radio/stage variety show will feature comic actors Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer, “Wet Hot American Summer” director David Wain, free solo climber Alex Honnold, comic Emily Heller, and musical guests.

‘A Taffeta Christmas’

Broadway Rose Theatre concludes its 2015 “Season of Bright Beginnings” with the Rick Lewis 1950s holiday revue and sequel to “The Taffetas!” It’s Christmas in Muncie, Ind., and The Dumont Television Network is featuring the bubbly 1950s girl group The Taffetas on its “Hometown Hoedown” program. The sisters take us on a trip down memory lane with 1950s Christmas songs and holiday memories.

Shook Twins

The indie-folk Portland sister duo shares the bill with Tall Heights and Annalisa Tornfelt and The Sound Outside as they perform songs from their latest full-length album, “What We Do,” produced by Grammy Award-nominated producer Ryan Hadlock. The Shook Twins relocated to Portland in 2009. They’ve performed alongside several notable groups and hosted The Lumineers at their singular house concerts.

Portland Soundcheck V

The series of concerts showcases top Portland musical talent, featuring all genres on one stage on one night. For more, see “Live Music!” on page 3. The showcase started from conversations between friends at a coffee shop in Northeast Portland, and emphasizes like-minded artists from various genres.

Oregon Symphony

The symphony has a couple big shows coming up: teaming with Melissa Etheridge in her “This is M.E. Solo” show, 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 S.W. Broadway (tickets starting at $35, www.orsymphony.org); and playing Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 27” as well as works by Lutoslawski and Brahms, conducted by guest conductor Stanislaw Skrowaczewski and featuring pianist Francisco Piemontesi, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22, and 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 23, The Schnitz, tickets starting at $23.

Byron Westbrook

Disjecta Contemporary Art Center presents the “Interval/Habitat” time-based installation by the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based Westbrook that invites local performers to collaborate with a continually shifting environment, using the stage as a dramatic space and 17 theatrical lighting fixtures and multichannel sound.
