Doc spotlight
Upstairs Inferno
By Camina Entertainment, its a haunting and powerful documentary about a 1973 fire set by an arsonist at the UpStairs Lounge, a gay bar in the French Quarter in New Orleans. Thirty-two people died and some bodies could not be identified. The primary suspect was never charged with the crime. The incident resulted in lost jobs, fear, public ridicule, homophobic reactions and severed family ties among the survivors. The documentary, directed by Robert L. Camina and narrated by Christopher Rice, has been selected for the Portland Queer Film Festival. It will screen at 9 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Cinema 21, 616 N.W. 21st Ave.
