‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’

The Oregon Symphony orchestra plays John Williams’ memorable score as the Steven Spielberg/George Lucas movie starring Harrison Ford shows on the big screen.

Portland Piano International

The company is putting on a new festival, “The Clearing,” featuring the likes of Claudia Chan, Yihan Chen and others, Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 10-13, at Lincoln Hall at Portland State University. It’ll feature recitals, master classes, films, demonstrations and panel discussions. The fest is curated by Tamara Stefanovich and hosted by artistic director Arnaldo Cohen. Stars perform

• Lauryn Hill, on her “MLH Caravan: A Diaspora Calling! tour, plays Keller Auditorium, 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 10.

• Legendary Kris Kristofferson, prolific songwriter who has 28 albums (including “Feeling Mortal”), plays the Newmark Theatre, 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11.

• The Beach Boys, led by Mike Love and Bruce Johnston, bring “50 Years of Good Vibrations” to Keller Auditorium, 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13.

Youth symphonies

• The Portland Youth Philarmonic begins its 93rd season with back-to-back opening nights, beginning with a world premiere by Tomas Svoboda (“Symphony No. 2”), at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 S.W. Broadway. Led by musical director David Hattner, PYP also will perform a piece by Richard Wagner. There’ll be 21 soloists. PYP’s Conservatory Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Youth Strong Ensemble plays the next day at Vancouver’s Skyview High School. For tickets/info:

• The Metropolitan Youth Symphony begins its season 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Schnitz, performing under the direction of music director Raul Gomez. It’ll perform Tchaikovsky’s “Symphony No. 5” and Bernstein’s “Candide Overture.” The MYS ensembles Interlude Orchestra and Concert Orchestra also will perform. Celtic Thunder

The Irish music group comes to Portland with “Legacy,” a new show that includes such upbeat songs as “A Place in the Choir,” “Galway Girl” and “Raggle Taggle Gypsy,” as well as ballads “Danny Boy,” “Noreen” and “Buachaille On Eirne.”
