Portland Piano International
The company is putting on a new festival, The Clearing, featuring the likes of Claudia Chan, Yihan Chen and others, Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 10-13, at Lincoln Hall at Portland State University. Youth symphonies
The Portland Youth Philarmonic begins its 93rd season with back-to-back opening nights, beginning with a world premiere by Tomas Svoboda (Symphony No. 2), at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, 1037 S.W. Broadway. Led by musical director David Hattner, PYP also will perform a piece by Richard Wagner. Therell be 21 soloists. The Metropolitan Youth Symphony begins its season 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, at the Schnitz, performing under the direction of music director Raul Gomez. Itll perform Tchaikovskys Symphony No. 5 and Bernsteins Candide Overture. The MYS ensembles Interlude Orchestra and Concert Orchestra also will perform. Celtic Thunder
