Banned books celebrated this week at Milwaukie, Oregon City public libraries

Would you go to jail for your favorite book?

This isn’t an idle question. American and world history is riddled with times when people have vigorously defended the rights of everyone to seek the forms of expression they wish, even if a book, film or magazine is offensive to some people.

PHOTO BY RAYMOND RENDLEMAN - Gina Bacon, Oregon City Adult Services librarian, sets up the annual display for Banned Books Week.It’s the question that the Oregon City Public Library will be asking its patrons in an open forum in celebration of this week’s national Banned Book Week, celebrated annually at the end of September. Librarians created Banned Book Week in 1982 in response to a growing number of requests to remove materials from the shelves of public libraries and public school curricula.
