
Quilters from Portland and beyond unite for one of the citys bigger crafting events, the Northwest Quilting Expo.
The 16th annual show takes place 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Sept. 22-23, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Expo Center, 2060 N. Marine Drive.

Its tabbed as Portlands Original Sewing and Quilting Festival.
The beautiful quilts are the big attraction. Special exhibits are by Colleen Wise, Leotie Richards, Lisa Jenni, Helen Remick and Joyce R. Becker, as well as guilds WestSide Modern, Corvallis Modern and Portland Modern. Also, men are being introduced to the expo with the Mens Quilt Exhibit, lecture and class; notable quilts are by Michel McDowell and Pat Wilson.
The Portland Modern Quilt Guild was formed in 2010 and has grown to more than 200 women and men who meet monthly for guest speakers, trunk shows, lectures and sharing. It also hosts Sew Days, Charity Sews retreat, workshops and happy hours. For more: portlandmqg.com.
The WestSide Modern Quilt Club is based at The Pine Needle in Lake Oswego, and itll debut its Tribal Winds, A Northwest Native American Exploration exhibit in conjuction with the Oregon Historical Societys Oregon Is Indian Country exhibit, which honors the states recognized tribes. The quilters drew inspiration from photographer Edward Curtis photos of Native Americans and Northwest Native American enthusiasts, as well as the Lake Oswego Reads 2016 book selection Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher by Timothy Egan.
