Just like a blistering guitar solo or a four-hour show, The Boss trip to Powells City of Books brought the house down sort of.
Bruce Springsteens Oct. 4 appearance in the Rose City was marred by the crash of a website selling tickets for the event. Powells reported that the Eventzilla site set up to sell tickets crashed Wednesday morning, Sept. 14, shortly after a crush of ticket buyers flooded the site.
Now, Powells event has been removed from Eventzilla, and the bookstore isnt sure when or if it will return.
In the meantime, tickets arent selling for Springsteens appearance at the West Burnside flagship store.
A recording on Powells phone line says the company plans to give people at least 24 hours notice before tickets start selling again. Of course we knew Bruce Springsteen would be extremely popular, and we understood the demand could be taxing on a system, but we did not anticipate this degree of trouble and we are truly sorry for the inconvenience, according to the recording.
Springsteen is coming to town to promote his new book, "Born to Run." He'll appear at Powell's City of Books, 1005 W. Burnside St., at noon Tuesday, Oct. 4.
Tickets went on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday at www.powellsbooks.eventzilla.net. They are $32.50 each, and include a pre-signed copy of the book. They are good for a chance to meet The Boss. Springsteen won't read from the book and he doesn't plan to perform at the event, according to Powell's.
Springsteen started writing the book in 2009, after he and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl's halftime show.
Springsteen is somewhat familiar with parts of Portland. He was married during a midnight ceremony in Lake Oswego's Our Lady of the Lake Church May 13, 1985, to actress/model Julianne Phillips. They divorced in 1989.
