COURTESY PHOTO - The Providence Bridge Pedal will draw thousands of cyclists to Portland's bridges, Saturday, Aug. 13.Another year, another bridge to cross.

Last year, participants in the Providence Bridge Pedal had the opportunity to ride over the Tilikum Crossing before the new structure opened to the public.

This year, with the reopening of the Sellwood Bridge, riders will get to cross over the rebuilt bridge in the 21st annual event, Sunday, Aug. 14. But, TriMet has left Tilikum Crossing off the Providence Bridge Pedal lineup.

There’ll be up to 10 bridges crossed in 37 miles. There also are shorter rides of eight bridges and six bridges, family-friendly routes and walking routes. The rides range from $20-$40, the walking route $15-$25.

For complete info and registration: www.providencebridgepedal.org.

Among the highlights:

• Cyclists on the premier Fremont Express ride can enjoy coffee, juice, a light breakfast and the sunrise from the top of the Fremont Bridge prior to the 6:45 a.m. start. It’s part of the 37-mile route ahead of other Bridge Pedal participants and costs $60 to participate.

• Kids ride for free, limited to 1,000 children age 12 and under, on a three-mile waterfront spin.

• All events end along Southwest Naito Parkway, where there’ll be a safe/secure place to park bicycles and riders can attend The Bite of Oregon for free.

• The Health and Wellness Expo takes place 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, at Providence Park.
