Members of the Portland theater community plan to take part in Climate Change Theatre Action with live performances, organized by Tracy Cameron Francis, on the occasion of talks in Paris focusing on climate change.
Boom Arts and Artists Repertory Theatre, in conjunction with Theatre Without Borders, will team up for the local performance of short play readings to cultivate conversation and inspire action around climate change, 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at Artists Rep, 1515 S.W. Morrison St. There will be new plays and excerpts of work by local playwrights Noah Dunham (Action/Adventure Theatre), Miriam Feder (PDX Playwrights), and Rich Rubin, all presented alongside work by national/international playwrights Wendy Macleod, Naomi Iizuka, Deborah Asimwe, Dipika Guha and August Shulenberg.
Its free admission, but donations to climate change partner 350 PDX are encouraged and accepted.

Northwest Senior Theatre
The folks at Northwest Senior Theatre are planning for their Silver Season Holidays show, as the group celebrates 25 years of entertainment with such audience favorites as White Christmas, Santa Baby, Sleigh Ride and more among dancing, comedy and merriment. Oregon Play Prize
Artists Repertory Theatre and Table/Room/Stage are taking submissions for new play development. It provides an opportunity for an Oregon playwright to win a $10,000 commission, work with a theater company on a new play and receive full production at Artists Rep. Luan Schooler, director of new play development and dramaturgy, leads T/R/S and the Oregon Play Prize project.
The play must be written by an Oregon resident, and scripts/ideas must be unproduced. They can be submitted to Artists Rep until Jan. 31.

Native American fete
As part of Native American Heritage Month, Portland Parks & Recreation will play host to the fifth annual Native American Family Day and Marketplace, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Mt. Scott Community Center, 5530 S.E. 72nd Ave.
The day will feature free roller skating and swimming at Mt. Scott Community Center, and Native American vendors selling arts and crafts, Indian tacos and fry bread, jewelry and more.
Symphony hire
The Oregon Symphony says it enjoyed its most successful season in history with records for sold-out performances, total ticket revenue, new and total patrons, donations, new and total donors, and gala giving. Now the symphony has hired two executives to help the company grow even more Steve Wenig as vice president and general manager and Ellen Bussing as vice president for development.
Scott Showalter, president and CEO, now has his complete management team in place, as the two new executives join Janet Plummer (chief financial and operating officer), Charles Calmer (vice president of artistic administration) and Jim Fullan (vice president of communications, marketing and sales).
