Doc spotlight
Portland Film Festival
Besides the 10 documentaries that will be judged at the third annual event, Sept. 1 through 7, therell be some other special screenings of documentaries (see portlandfilmfestival.com for more info); Like Me, about New York City comedian Micah Shermans battle to overcome social anxiety through social media; The Resurrection of Jake the Snake, a portrait of wrestler Jake The Snake Roberts and his addictions; We are Twisted F***ING Sister, about the 1980s metal band; and Mega Summer Hit: A Slam Dunkumentary, a mockumentary about a social media contest in which the makers struggle to finish the film.
Upcoming event
Local filmmaker Sean Brown debuts his third feature film, Radio Silence, 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6 at the Hollywood Theatre, 4122 N.E. Sandy Blvd., followed by a Q&A with Brown and cast members (hollywoodtheatre.org). The film tackles the controversial topic of same-sex domestic violence, through a day in the life of a troubled same-sex couple, Carr and James, and their son, Heath, on the last day of the world a re-imagining of the War of the Worlds broadcast. It was shot in Portland and northern Spain in a collaborative production with Spanish filmmaker Jorge Nunez. The film will premiere in Spain in January.
