Itll be the annual Waterfront Concert on Sept. 3, as the Oregon Symphonys music fills the space, and skies over Waterfront Park are lit up by fireworks following Tchaikovskys 1812 Overture, complete with military cannons from the Oregon Army National Guard 218th Field Artillery.
Its expected to be the largest Waterfront Concert ever (20,000 people), and itll be broadcast for the first time on All Classical Portland 89.9 FM. Therell also be afternoon performances by musicians and youth orchestras.
The Waterfront Concert details: 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, symphony starts at 7 p.m., Waterfront Park, http://www.OrSymphony.org, free.
The concert kicks off the Symphony season, which includes in the first month: National Circus and Acrobats of the Peoples Republic of China (Sept. 9); guitarist Pablo Villegas (Sept. 12), Pokémon: Symphonic Evolutions (Sept. 17); The Music of Pink Floyd (Sept. 19); Patti LaBelle (Sept. 20); and percussionist Colin Currie (Sept. 26-28).
