• A reminder to visit while it’s still open: The Quintana Galleries of Native American Art, Portland’s longest-running art gallery, will close Aug. 15 after 42 years in business. It was established in 1972 by Rose and Cecil Quintana in Old Town, and it was one of the first galleries to challenge the stereotype of Native American art as being mere tourist craft. Notable artists featured included David Boxley (Tsimshian Nation), Susan Point (Coast Salish Nation), Lillian Pitt (Yakama/Warm Springs), The Henderson Family (Kwakwaka/wakw Nation), Art Thompson (Nuu-Chah-Nulth Nation).

The gallery now is located in the heart of the Pearl District, 124 N.W. Ninth Ave. (www.quintanagalleries.com).

• The Laura Russo Gallery presents its group exhibition, which takes up the entire space at 805 N.W. 21st Ave., featuring the works of 40 regional living artists. It starts with a 5 p.m. First Thursday reception and goes through Aug. 29. For info: laurarusso.com.

• “Urban PDX,” urban landscape works by Gary Buhler, an artist and George Fox University professor of art, will be on display at the Architectural Heritage Center, 701 N.E. Grand Ave., starting 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, through Sept. 29 (visitahc.org).

• The Alley 33 Fashion Event, 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, emphasizes sustainability through the support of Portland-based clothing companies that specialize in ready-to-wear clothing for everyday use. There are several featured designers, and there’ll be music by DJ Gregarious. It’ll take place at Alley 33, at Southeast 33rd Avenue and Hawthorne Boulevard ($12 advance, $15 at door, www.alley33.com).

• The “Our Lives, Through Our Lens: Experiences and Reflections” exhibit features work by students involved with the STRYVE initiative with Portland Community College. It’s curated by Kelli Pennington, PCC photography teacher. It opens at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, and goes through Sept. 4 at Port City Gallery, 2156 N. Williams Ave. STRYVE (Striving to Reduce Youth Violence Everywhere) and PCC-Cascade have an agreement for dual credit for Rosemary Anderson High School and STRYVE students.
